Organize the Whole Shebang

Hollywood baby... here I come! [Organizing Awards 2010]

Hellloooo Dah-ling! I'm tickled pink to be a finalist for Best Time Management Expert for the 2010 Organizing Awards put on by NAPO LA with big-wig sponsor Avery Dennison Office Products! I will be a guest at the Organize.com table... They are up for Best Organizing Product Retailer + I heart them big time! I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing all the Organize.com peeps live as I remotely work for them as their social media coordinator.

A few weeks back I told you about the event [to read that post click here]... but it's THIS SATURDAY and I leave for LA on Friday! I'm in for a complete + utterly girly LA-LA land weekend. First I get to meet up with my girlfriend from high school... we were there for each other during the whole first love thing + the post first love thing... but I digress, as usual. I've got some over-the-top fabulous clothes and jewelry borrowed from my Fairy Closet Mother-wait till you see the pics- I may just be MOST excited to strut around in her clothes- acceptance speech or no acceptance speech I'll be lookin' oh SO very bull whip yielding PO meets Class-a-fras!

And talk about sassy.... Kim Coles is the event emcee. You may remember her from  "In Living Color" and "Living Single." 

Also you've got to take a peek at the Awards Venue....I KNOW... it's Glamorous isn't it?! Raleigh Studios Hollywood is known for being the filming site of Charlie Chaplin.

Most importantly I'm honored to be a finalist amongst such notables in the organizing industry [Organizing Award 2010 Finalists] all while sipping on cocktails with old friends... Emily Wilska, John Trosko, Jodie Watson [finalist for Best TV Show Real Simple. Real Life. (TLC)],  Aby Garvey [finalist for Best Organizing Blog + my roomie Sat. night!], Mrs. Organized and a few new friends is so up my alley.

Organize.com Twitter Chat!

Earlier this week I did my monthly lifestyle segment on AM Northwest. I noticed that since Christmas everyone around me was in complete + utter organizing mode- they wanted to toss everything to the curb + start fresh. Here's a simple set of rules to help you TOSS year round!

Dump, as in RECYCLE the obvious… recycling, newspaper, broken and expired items.

Then tackle your makeup + spices [info from Consumer Reports]

ITEM                   WHEN TO CHUCK IT

Blush                  Every 2-3 years

Eyeliner               After 3 months if it's the liquid type

Foundation           After 6-12 months

Lipstick                After 1-2 years

Makeup Brushes    no need to toss.  Clean them every 2 weeks w/gentle shampoo

Makeup Sponges   Every 2-4 weeks

Mascara              Every 4 months

Moisturizer           After a year

Self-Tanner         After 2 years

Sunscreen           After 1 year, unless expiration date is listed.

 

Spices… still spice worthy [click here for original post]  

Keep ground spices no more than 2-3 years + whole spice for 3-4 years. Do the whiff test-if the spice smells strong, use it.  If not, toss it.

Enough with the yada yada yada... You can do this Chica. It's NOT rocket science... never has been never will be. You just need to pick a space and start. ONE space. One little teeny weeny space.

Then when you are done with that space... pick another- finish it. No halfway completed projects here girlfriend. You MUST finish one before you start the next. I KNOW, I KNOW sometimes those projects cross over into other projects and make things all messy. Then you spin around feeling overwhelmed because you've got a LOT of projects that need to be done.

Oh where to start?

I believe you need to pour yourself a cup of joe get your Shebang 101 on! Then when you're ready for a plan to get it + keep it together take a look at my lifestyle plan Organize the Whole Shebang... I just call her "The Shebang". She's full of big + little projects, with step by step directions on how to tackle them. She'll keep you sane amongst all things SHE... self, home, and your endeavors. She won't do it for you, but she'll give you the kick in the spanks you need to tackle them yourself! There's also plenty of fabulous meets function tips right here on my blog!
