It's really quite scary that I'm professing ideas for meal planning... I AM SO NOT a chef. In fact the grocery store scares me just a tad. All those fluorescent lights and rows of raw meat make we want to run to the nearest restaurant. So this segment is a testimonial to the fact that if something is whittled down and made less complicated + less overwhelming I can handle it. You can too girlfriend, you can too.

BE REALISTIC
Break it down now sister... look at your planner. How much time do you really have to cook? What days will you be home to cook? Let's say 3 days are doable.
KEEP IS SIMPLE
Determine your family favs. Everyone can participate.... then create post it notes with their choices. *see below* Don't forget to make post-its for leftovers, pizza, takeout ;)
Also look through simple *read dated* cookbooks for ideas! Here's a closeup of my elementary school cookbook that the P.T.A. ladies put together to make some cashola. Notice the simple ingredients! Also makes we wonder where John Betow (recipe Ruth's son) is now... will have to facebook him later ;)

Realistic- check Simple- check

SYSTEMS...putting it all together
Now take those little post-its and place them on each day of the week then use the list to create your grocery list. Voila- you did it!
Looking for some more ideas? Here's some ideas from my fabulous friends at The Organized Parent...check out their meal planning section! And how cute.cute.cute these items are!

When I was putting together my segment I did a shout out to my online friends (facebook + twitter). Below are the tips they shared with me. I'm passing them on to you in hopes that you will also find a system that fits your lifestyle. PLUS if you aren't on FB or Twitter you can see what these little blurbs look like- short + sweet.
